Amelia
DAY 1
Press Release Writing
No comms professional's tool kit is complete without the ability to write impactful press releases and media alerts. This workshop will give you the opportunity to take a step back and consider best practice when it comes to structure, style and content, helping you to:

Understand how the media works and appreciate how journalists get their stories

Identify the ingredients of a great story

Consider the different strategies for securing coverage for clients beyond press releases

Write eye-catching headlines and first paragraphs that encapsulate the news angle

Get to the point by writing clearly and succinctly

Craft compelling client quotes
-
Broaden your vocabulary and avoid cliché language

Choose the most appropriate media channels for the target audience

Adapt content to different channels, from national titles to trade and social media
DAY 2
Media Pitching
This workshop, filled with practical activities and role play, is designed to build your confidence around pitching to the media, helping you to:

Get to know journalists and build media relationships to maximise results

Understand the rules of media engagement

Write compelling email pitches that stand out from the crowd
-
Feel more confident pitching over the phone
-
Master the follow up phase to nurture relationships and increase the chance of securing coverage
PREPARATION
Ahead of the training, please take a look at the workshop overview above and drop Sarah an email by 29 June with any areas you would particularly like to focus on.
Please also have a think about a client story that you have recently worked on or are currently working on, for the practical exercises on day two.
It would be great if you could bring a laptop along to the training with you.

ABOUT AMELIA BULLOCK-MUIR
Amelia has spent the past decade working for leading independent communications consultancies, providing strategic counsel and communications training. Her clients have included eBay, lastminute.com group, The Trade Desk and tech unicorn Personio. She has coached clients, from sales executives to the c-suite, to communicate more confidently and persuasively. Workshop topics include data storytelling, creative writing, media, panel and presentation skills.

As well as running training courses, Amelia is a professional copywriter and an expert in how to improve message delivery across a range of channels and situations. She is currently studying an MSc in psychology and has a keen interest in its application in the business/sales setting.
