PREPARATION

DEADLINE

WEDNESDAY 14 FEBRUARY

This essential full day management workshop covers key topics, such as motivation, delegation and giving feedback, as well as understanding the roles and expectations of a line manager. You will come away with a raft of practical tools that you can apply straight away. You will start to understand your own management style and how to adapt to others’ needs, in order to get the best from them. You will learn how to structure important conversations.

LINE MANAGER ESSENTIALS

  • Gain an understanding of the core processes and requirements of the role

  • Learn how to write objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound

  • Identify the skills and behaviours that are required for each individual to be performing at their optimum

  • Ensure team members have the necessary training, support and mentoring to develop those competencies

  • Discover how to plan and structure effective 1:1 check-ins

MOTIVATING TEAMS

  • Understand the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivators

  • Know how to deliver recognition that is heard and appreciated; practise positive reinforcement

  • Appreciate your natural management style and its impact

  • Recognise differences in others and how they like to be managed; flex your style accordingly

DELEGATING & BRIEFING

  • Learn to deliver consistently clear, thorough briefs

  • Strike the perfect balance between ‘remote’ and ‘approachable’ – managerial, not matey

  • Appreciate how to brief colleagues according to their competence and maturity

  • Master the art of open questions

  • Check for understanding, provide space for enquiry and recognise incongruous nonverbal signals

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Understand how to structure critical feedback

  • Create a ‘fearless feedback’ culture, giving development feedback assertively and explicitly

  • Apply the principles of ‘positive regard’ and ‘genuineness’

  • Diagnose poor performance and the reasons
