This workshop is designed to help you record meetings succinctly and in the most user-friendly way possible. The session provides clear guidelines on note-taking conventions. They’ll help you to stay in control, capture the most important points and produce accurate, useful notes. 

  

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practise these skills and receive feedback during the course. 

PART 1

The first part will provide guidelines on what to do before, during and after meetings so you can take notes properly: â€‹

  • Preparing to take minutes 

  • Understanding audience needs 

  • Using accepted Rathbones’ minute-writing models 

  • Keeping up with fast-paced meetings 

  • Clarifying key points, responsibilities and timings  

​

You will use a role-play exercise to practise your new note-taking skills. 

PART 2

The second part will focus on the language aspect of notes:​

​

  • Write succinctly and in plain English 

  • Broaden your vocabulary of reporting verbs 

  • Use appropriate sentence structures 

  • Use impartial language 

  • Edit and format your work 

​

You will use a video exercise to further develop your note-taking skills.
