GET GEARED

FOUNDER

Margaret is quick to get to the heart of what motivates customers and is able to use that understanding to produce communication materials that "work", with the customer and commercially.

ABOUT THE TRAINING

The aim of the training is to provide concrete guidance on how to write professional reports from scratch. You will learn a methodology for structuring your work, which focuses both on the purpose of the report and the needs of the reader. You will be able to identify the key points and to communicate them using concise, accessible language.

  • Know where to start

  • Identify the most appropriate structure or template for the individual document

  • Get clarity around the purpose and objectives of different reports - inform, recommend or persuade

  • Understand different needs and interests of senior stakeholders

  • Use planning tools to create a logical framework

  • Present complex financial issues in a non-technical way

  • Eliminate unnecessary detail and summarise key points

  • Use navigation techniques to help signpost documents more clearly

  • Understand the importance of consistency throughout documents

  • Use signposting and connectors to improve the flow of your work

  • Adhere to organisational style guidelines and identity

  • Make your writing more appealing and digestible – readability

  • Write in plain English – especially active voice, everyday language and short sentences & paragraphs

  • Use technical language correctly, avoiding jargon and corporate speak

  • Use powerful verbs and specific nouns, not hyperbolic adjectives and adverbs

  • Use concrete and abstract language appropriately
